Where do most CO2 emissions come from in Japan?
From companies? Or is it the government?
In fact, according to a survey conducted by the Ministry of Environment and
the National Institute for Environmental Studies, the sector responsible for
the largest amount of GHG emissions was the household sector.
What are some eective approaches to reducing GHG emissions, including
CO2 and methane, when we do not limit our scopes to CO2? We noted that
there are clear numbers for GHG emissions reduction approaches in the
household sector, compared to both the steel and chemical industry which
rank second and third places.
A large portion of the CO2 emissions from
homes come from "electricity".
We see this as an urgent point for improvement.
When we referred to the JCCCA (Japan Center for Climate Change Actions)
breakdown of CO2 emissions by source, the solution was clear as day.
As shown in the gure, the full electrication and use of green electricity
would reduce CO2 emissions by up to 71.6% This is equivalent to about 10%
of Japan's total CO2 emissions.
However, despite the existence of clear solutions, including solar power and
high-capacity batteries, only about 10% have been installed.
